Faustel offers complete coating and laminating solutions from components to full lines which include web drying and curing, winding and unwinding, and control systems. Our in-house Technology Center stands ready to assist you with product development and process R&D. Our facility includes a 300 mm pilot line and a 600 mm production level coating line, both capable of aqueous and solvent-based slot die, comma roll, and roll coating.
Faustel is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of web-fed coating and laminating machinery. Faustel’s process expertise and technology extend beyond coaters and laminators to encompass the associated tasks of unwinding and rewinding rolls, making splices for a continuous process, drying or curing coatings and adhesives, and precise web handling. Faustel makes the equipment and control systems for all of these functions, tailored to perform successfully in a complete new line or as a retrofit to an existing line.
Faustel (originally called Faustel Engineering Co.) was formed in 1956 as a design and engineering service firm operating out of a one-room first floor rental on Milwaukee’s east side. Armed with little more than engineering backgrounds from MILPRINT, INC., a local printing and package converting firm, Faustel’s active partners were soon receiving requests to manufacture as well as engineer custom equipment. The name Faustel had been chosen earlier as an acronym representing the surnames of Everett Faulls and Walter Stelling who, with a third but inactive partner, Edward Kent, founded the company. Faustel continues as a private corporation with present ownership active in Faustel’s operation.
Many of Faustel’s machinery advances were pioneered as a result of the dynamic technological advances in polymer chemistry brought by the dictates of the aerospace programs of the 60’s. Need for equipment development pivoted on the advent of completely different materials for coatings and adhesives as well as many new and exotic substrates. Quick encouragement for Faustel to make equipment and process modifications came from the chemists and product development specialists of Morton, Dow, DuPont, etc. Their new chemistries had opened opportunities for more demanding items such as boil-in-bag and portion pack materials which could not be made successfully on older machinery designed to run lacquer coatings, casein, adhesives, etc. Faustel’s innovations here gave them the momentum to go on into areas of developing coating and laminating equipment for flexible products used in the aerospace, medical, automotive, electronics and textile industries to name a few.
Faustel Xiamen, a WOFE of Faustel, Inc. was established in 2005 to serve multi-national customers with operations throughout Asia. Over time the business has evolved with equipment being shipped to Faustel customers world wide, all built to the same high quality standards our customers have come to expect.
